Marlowe Middle School proudly presents Box by Lindsay Price in the District 158 Performing Arts Center located at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road.
Sometimes we choose the way the world sees us. Black box — indestructible. Jewelry box — plain on the outside, shiny on the inside. Sometimes our box is defined by others — our parents, friends, enemies. A box built by others can feel small, confined, impossible.
How do we handle the boxes imposed upon us because of our gender? Our race? From peer pressure? From parent pressure? Do we have to live with our box for the rest of our lives? Can we change?
Box, a vignette play depicts how we all carry and deal with our boxes, or labels, in life. The characters tell the stories of teenagers who hide boxes that were chosen for them either by their parents, peers, their gender, race and many other circumstances, and how these teens break away from their narrow and confining labels, and figure out who they truly are.
Sometimes we choose the way the world sees us. Black box – indestructible. Jewelry box – plain on the outside, shiny on the inside. Sometimes our box is defined by others – our parents, our friends, our enemies. A box built by others can feel small, confined, impossible. But, in the end, reputation, and who others want you to be, does not matter. What matters most is being who you want to be.
Box is directed by Ms. Olivia Barnec and Mrs. Jill Cross.
