Welcome Incoming 6th Graders!

Dear Families of Incoming 6th Graders,

It is with great pleasure that I write my first letter to welcome our incoming 6th graders and their families to Heineman Middle School.  As a staff, we look forward to working with your child the next three years and are eager to establish a working relationship with our parents. Together, we will provide the necessary skills to help our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

We have scheduled a few opportunities to assist in a smooth transition to middle school.  While we can’t offer some of the events we typically do, I’m confident that our offerings will provide our parents and students with valuable information and experiences.

  • May 25th
    • Normally our students make a visit to Heineman, but due to safety guidelines, we are unable to hold this event this year.  Instead, the administration and a counselor will visit students at Conley and Leggee to provide an overview of HMS and answer any questions students have.

  • June 8th and June 9th (both events begin at 6:30 p.m. in the HMS Gym)
    • Incoming 6th Grade Parent Orientation (Parent Only Event)
      • Due to COVID restrictions, we can only accommodate a certain number of parents, and we ask that only one parent of a household attend this event.
        • If your child’s last name is A-K, please attend the June 8th presentation
        • If your child’s last name is L-Z, please attend the June 9th presentation
      • In case you can’t make this event or would like access to the information discussed afterwards, please know that the presentation will be linked to our website and also emailed to all parents.

  • August 10th & 11th
    • Jump Start to 6th Grade (more information will be shared in the near future)
      • All 6th grade students are invited to attend our Jump Start. There will be no fee for Jump Start.
      • This transition event is geared toward students getting to know our building, learning their schedules, and better understanding a typical day as an HMS student.

I anticipate that many of your questions regarding middle school will be answered at the 6th Grade Parent Orientation. However, if you need to speak with anyone at HMS, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Proud to be a Hawk!
