Huntley High School will host “The Clothesline Project,” a sexual abuse and sexual assault awareness event associated with Erin’s Law on Thursday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Commons.
The Clothesline Project is a display of t-shirts made by survivors of sexual abuse and assault, or in honor of survivors of sexual violence. The t-shirts contain personal expressions of the survivors’ experiences and are intended to break the silence surrounding sexual violence. Students will have an opportunity to create t-shirts to contribute to the display.
Social workers and counselors, as well as a community educator from McHenry County, will be on hand to provide assistance and support to students.
The event also will raise awareness for resources available to survivors of sexual violence, including:
Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault
Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network
Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Students who are survivors of sexual violence are encouraged to reach out to those resources for assistance. Help also is always available from HHS counselors and social workers:
Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Skubak, Mrs. Ryan
Mrs. Atchley, Mrs. Daurer, Ms. Swanson
Mrs. Martens, Mrs. Zacharias, Mrs. Kowalski, Ms. Scott
Mrs. Klein, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Broskow
