Huntley 158 Today: Dr. Burkey Looks Back at 12 Years as Superintendent

Today we welcome a special guest co-host as we sit down with Dr. John Burkey to look back at his 12 years as superintendent of Huntley 158. Burkey’s last day as superintendent was January 31, 2018.

In our discussion, Dr. Burkey talks about what he’s proudest of, what he sees as the biggest challenges facing Huntley 158, and his vision for the future of the District.

Over his time in Huntley 158, Burkey guided the District through a large and rapid expansion in its student population, oversaw a number of construction projects, helped steer the implementation of the state’s largest K-12 1:1 initiative, the nationally recognized Blended Learning Program at Huntley High School, and the launch of specialized academies at HHS, as well as helping reach record levels of student achievement.

Burkey is beginning a new position as executive director of the Large Unit District Association.
