Four HHS Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Four Huntley High School students have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are among approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million.

The HHS semifinalists are:

  • Alyssa V. Schechtel
  • Cameron J. Chrest
  • Delaney R. Hajek
  • Zoe M. Zuzzio

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.

The group is among 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools who entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Finalists will be notified in February 2018.
