Conley Students Shoot for the Stars with Battle of the Books

Fifth-grade students at Conley Elementary displayed their knowledge of many excellent books in the Battle of the Books competition on May 1, 2015.

Students worked in teams to read books listed on common book lists. They prepared notes about the books and discussed them with their teammates to prepare for the Battle. Students also used their 1:1 tablets to play games to practice for the Battle.

On Friday, May 1, students had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of the books they read by playing four different types of quiz games: Family Feud, Academic Whiz Kid, Super Challenge, and Relay. The two highest scoring teams after eight preliminary rounds, the Comets and the North Stars, participated in the final Battle of the Books, emceed by District 158 Superintendent John Burkey Chief Financial Officer Mark Altmayer.

After several intense rounds of answering questions about the assigned books, the Comets took the championship.
