With the 2019-2020 school year on the horizon, Marlowe Middle School and Heineman Middle School continue to team together by working in conjunction with Centegra Health System on mandatory concussion protocols that have been set forth by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA). The protocols listed require that any athlete or person(s) participating in IESA sponsored activities or sporting events in middle school or high school must complete a baseline assessment before trying out or competing in any such event. Being that Marlowe and Heineman both offer a variety of sport opportunities, as well as activities that are affiliated with IESA, any student who plans on participating in any sport or IESA sponsored activity will need to complete required baseline testing. Below is a list of dates that we will be working with Centegra to provide baseline testing for students who attend Marlowe or Heineman:
- July 25th, 2019- 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Northwestern Hospital (10400 Haligus Rd, Huntley, IL, 60142)
- August 7, 2019- 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Northwestern Hospital (10400 Haligus Rd, Huntley, IL, 60142)
- August 8, 2019- 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Northwestern Hospital (10400 Haligus Rd, Huntley, IL, 60142)
- August 9, 2019- 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Northwestern Hospital (10400 Haligus Rd, Huntley, IL, 60142)
**To set up a time/date to take the required baseline testing, please use the following link: You must set up an appointment through sign up genius. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080f4fa5ac2ca6fe3-baseline10 YOU MAY NOT WALK IN for these dates.
The assessments take about thirty minutes to complete. They are by appointment only, no walk-ins will be accepted. Marlowe and Heineman will have additional days offered at the middle schools prior to each sport. These dates will be announced closer to the school year. Please note that concussion screenings are good for the following amount of time:
- 11 years and younger- 365 days (1 year) from the date taken
- 12 years and older- 730 days (2 years) from the date taken
If your child has already completed a concussion test and it fits within the above guidelines they do not need to be tested again. If your child has completed this testing through an independent health services company (other than Centegra), please make sure to turn in documentation to your respective school. If your child has completed the test through Huntley football, lacrosse, or cheer this would count as well. Unfortunately, any student who has not completed concussion baseline testing will not be able to tryout or participate in sports or IESA sponsored activities. The most important aspect of your child participating in an athletic event or activity is their safety. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible for all student-athletes or those students who are participating in IESA sponsored activities. We hope that you find this comforting to know that we are working diligently to promote safety and wellness in our students. Thank you for your time and have a great rest of the summer.
