April is a VERY BUSY time at Heineman and we are pleased that the weather has taken a positive turn for our track season. Please see below for a wide variety up upcoming dates and events.
Academic Awards Ceremony: This afternoon (4/24/19), we will recognize students who earned 3Q High Honors (3Q GPA 3.495-3.794) and 3Q Principal’s List (3Q GPA 3.795+). 6th grade students will be recognized at 4:30pm and 7th/8th grade students will be combined to be recognized at 5:15pm. Both of these events take place in the HMS main gym. Students who received Honor Roll will be presented with certificates by a teacher in their pod.
PTO Update: The 8th grade dance committee is rocking and rolling towards the dance next Friday, May 3rd from 7-9:30pm. Even if you have been unable to attend planning sessions thus far, please feel free to email Patrina Roberts (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help with set-up or tear down of the planned decorations. The committee will meet at 7:30pm next Monday, April 29th to plan out the needs for the week. The regular PTO meeting will take place at 6:30pm next Monday, April 29th and we are looking for parent leaders for next year! All four leadership roles are available due to parents moving on to HHS or moving out of D158 boundaries. Please consider coming to the meeting next Monday if you want to find out more; we are happy to work with any/no experience levels and will provide job shadowing at the May meeting to learn the ropes. Being part of the PTO is a fun, rewarding, limited commitment way to be engaged with HMS without your MS child having to see you at the school (gasp!). Please email me with any questions about PTO roles that are available.
Student Surveys: Survey 1: This morning, all students were emailed a Social Emotional Learning survey that takes approximately 5 minutes to fill out. Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, District 158 has been conducting a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) needs assessment. This internal survey is being administered to all students in grades 6-12 as a way to assist with future Advisory plans. The results of this survey will not be shared with any outside group nor will the results be tracked by each individual student. The information will be used to improve our current lessons and how we can continue to assist and support our students and staff. Survey 2: All current 6th and 7th grade students have been sent a Google form to rank their exploratory options for next year; if they need the survey re-sent, they can reach out to either Mrs. Mansfield or Mr. Nordan (HMS counselors).
Dine N Share: Two Dine N Share fliers are attached: MOD Pizza is tomorrow (4/25/19) and Chipotle is 4/30/19. Both events will benefit our end of the year fundraiser event for Give Love for Life that takes place on Tuesday, May 28th for 6th and 7th grade students (8th grade students will be on the Great America end of year field trip on this date).
Yearbook Orders: Families can still order a yearbook through May 10th at this link: https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1479850/Heineman-Middle-School/ Spring pictures were sent home earlier this week to famlies who placed orders on the day of pictures; proofs were sent home for families to consider if they haven’t ordered yet.
Parent University Opportunity: Huntley 158 will host a Parent University presentation on vaping, led by staff from the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition, on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Marlowe Middle School. The event is for parents only of middle school and high school students (no students in attendance, please). It will include information on the epidemic of vaping, the health consequences of teen usage, and strategies for prevention. RSVPs are requested at this link: www.district158.org/event/parent-university-vaping/
Have a great rest of the week!
