Heineman Middle School hosted about 100 guests at its Ordinary Heroes Program on Friday, November 21, 2014.
Among them were people who put their lives on the line each day to protect our country and community—firefighters, police, and veterans of the military. Others were “ordinary”—grandparents, parents, siblings, and friends.
All have made an extraordinary impact on the lives of Heineman students, who wrote essays about the heroes important to them.
“We want to recognize all heroes—those who have impacted the lives of the students in our building,” said Principal Jim Stotz.
All students wrote essays about the heroes in their lives, and from those, teams selected about 60 to be displayed at the breakfast.
Guests were served breakfast by members of the Heineman Student Council. The ceremony featured performances by the school chorus and band.
Student speakers for the event included Erica Bishop, Grace Filpi, Sam Thede, Shefali Sharma, and Meklit Endalcachew.
After the ceremony, guests were encouraged to take home copies of the essays about them.
