Message to Families Regarding a Loss in the HHS Community

Dear HHS Families,

It is with great sadness that I send this email to inform you that one of our current junior students, Shannon Daly, passed away yesterday, October 20, 2020. Our hearts are broken, and our sincerest thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Shannon. This loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school community, especially our students.

Huntley High School has dedicated counselors and social workers who are trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. In addition, social workers from throughout the District will assist our team in providing support. They will be available for any student who needs any type of assistance in processing this loss.

The entire staff of HHS embraces the mission to contribute to our students’ social/emotional development, and we will always be attentive to students’ emotional needs. If you feel that your child needs to speak to a counselor or social worker, please call the school and let us know. Additionally, if you need guidance on how to handle and talk about grief, please refer to this resource.

A short time ago, we notified all of our students about this loss and resources available to students. The message sent to students can be found here.

This is an incredibly difficult time for the Huntley 158 community. I know our students and staff will be able to lean on each other as they remember a friend and fellow HHS Raider. Please help us honor Shannon’s memory by uniting and supporting each other with love, empathy, and sympathy during this most harrowing of times, and please reach out for support.
