We have been working with the Illinois High School Association and Illinois State Board of Education to produce guidance for the beginning of resumption of extracurricular activities.
The COVID-19 Pandemic presents the IHSA and ISBE with a plethora of challenges. The IHSA’s Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC), along with ISBE and HHS, are offering this guidance of “opening up” extracurricular activities in Huntley Community School District 158.
IHSA Phase 1 (current phase) allows athletics and extracurricular activities to resume with strict social distancing and health and safety precautions and limitations. The Philosophy of Phase 1 for summer camps is to provide students and coaches an opportunity to reconnect. It is an opportunity to begin to return to normal. However, it is not a return to normal.
Phase 1 activities are designated by the IHSA to strength and conditioning activities, and are NOT sport specific. Some coaches or athletes may choose to continue preparing for their season at home via virtual meetings and personal workouts as Phase 1 activities are non sport specific.
A handful of HHS athletic programs, and their head coaches, would like to implement the Phase 1 strength and conditioning, non sport specific activities, and will provide outreach and information to the student and their families as well as directions for registration on the Huntley Athletics 8 to 18 website. No summer camps can be deemed mandatory and cannot be held against any coach or student-athlete.
Please see the letter below for the full information.
Please contact the HHS Athletics Department with any questions.
