Huntley Community School District 158 and the Huntley Police Department have completed a preliminary investigation into reports of troubling behavior by a student at Huntley High School. At this time, the District and the Police Department are confident that there is no credible threat to student safety in relation to these reports.
In this message, the District and the Police Department will share as much information as possible regarding this situation. Please understand that laws limit the information that can be shared regarding both police investigations and student-involved matters.
The school was made aware of a student’s behaviors that made some other students feel uncomfortable. As with any report of troubling behavior, the school took immediate action to look into the situation and ensure student safety and wellness. The District contacted Huntley Police Department to provide law enforcement assistance in conducting an assessment of any potential criminality or threats to student safety that may have been associated with the reported behaviors.
Late this evening, police officers visited the home of the student as part of the investigatory process. During this visit police found no evidence to substantiate that the student posed an acute danger to the school environment. The school district and police department will continue to work together and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the school environment. The school will follow its established disciplinary policies as warranted by the situation. As always, students are encouraged to report any troubling behaviors they witness or situations in which they are made to feel uncomfortable.
We understand that matters of school safety are always at the top of mind of families, as they are for schools and police. We strongly encourage anyone with information about potential dangers to share it immediately with school and police authorities. However, we ask members of the community to refrain from engaging in rumors regarding these subjects.
