Good Evening HHS Families,
It is with great sadness that I write this letter to notify the school community of the passing of one of our former HHS Red Raiders, Aidan Beckford. Late Saturday night we heard the extremely sad news that Aidan passed away after going missing last week. His body was found Saturday afternoon during a search led by law enforcement and community members. Our condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Aidan. As the school community processes this tragic news and copes with grief, we will offer counseling and support services to all of our students and staff.
The death of a student is challenging and difficult and can generate a high level of anxiety and distress for some students. Some students may have no experience coping with a loss and may even be confused about how to handle grief. If you feel that your child is having difficulty, we encourage you to discuss their thoughts and feelings to help them work through their grief and concerns. Please maintain awareness of your child’s communications such as social media, phone, email, and text messaging to further assess their potential need for assistance.
This is partly why I highly encourage students to make connections with trusted adults in the building and, more importantly, why it is important for OUR students to know that we love them and care about them. The entire staff of HHS is committed to the development and support of OUR students’ social/emotional well-being. Counselors and social workers will be available throughout the week for students to speak with. If there is anything you need from our staff at HHS, please do not hesitate to contact us at (847) 659-6600.
Mr. Marcus J. Belin, Ed.S
