The Huntley High School wrestling team earned its first state trophy in team history, placing 4th at the IHSA Class 3A dual team state meet over the weekend. The trip to state was also the team’s first.
The Red Raiders opened the tournament with a hard-fought win over Glenbard North before losing in the semifinals to eventual runner-up Oak Park-River Forest.
“What a great season this was,” coach B.J. Bertelsman told the Daily Herald. “The guys put in a lot of work this season, and because of that they can bring home our first trophy from dual-team state and that’s something to be very proud of.”
The team will be recognized by the Village of Huntley on March 8 and the Huntley 158 Board of Education on March 8.
