Huntley High School will host a free community screening of the film The S Word on Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. The film is intended to raise awareness and spark discussion around the topic of suicide. The event is targeted at teenage students and their parents, and members of the public are invited to attend in addition to Huntley 158 families. High school families are encouraged to attend. Families of middle school students are welcome to attend, but given the sensitive nature of the subject matter, parental guidance is recommended.
Free childcare will be available for families with younger children. Please RSVP if planning to use childcare »
Mental health clinicians will be at the event to assist with conversation, knowledge, and support for participants.
The film follows a suicide attempt survivor’s mission to find fellow survivors and document their stories of unguarded courage, insight and humor. During the course of her journey she discovers a national community rising to transform personal struggles into action. Watch the official trailer below.
The screening will be a continuation of a PBIS discussion on the topic that will be held with students earlier in the day. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
