Enrollment and Screening Information

District 158 Early Childhood Screening

The District 158 Early Childhood Center does not have open registration.

All students that attend and/or receive services through our program have been developmentally screened and/or evaluated and have qualified to attend the District 158 Early Childhood Center and/or receive services.

District 158 Early Childhood Center conducts developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 years old. The purpose of the screening process is to:

  • Identify students that are considered at-risk and would benefit from attending our early childhood/preschool program
  • Identify students that may need an evaluation for special education services.

Screenings occur in July, August, September, October, December, February and April. There are a specific amount of spots per screening, once a screening fills children will be added to the next screening month. Appointments are filled in the order of completed packets received.

We do not conduct a kindergarten screening.

Screening Process

Step 1: Complete the online screening survey Screening Step 1- Click Here (or click the link below). If you are unable to complete the online survey you can contact the screening hotline at (847) 659-6156 and leave your information. It is preferred that families complete the online survey if possible. Within two weeks you will receive a packet of information to be completed and returned. At times, due to the high volume of screening requests, it may take up to 2 weeks to receive the packet of information. Thank you for your understanding.

During the summer months of June, July, and August the D158 Early Childhood staff work limited days so it may take up to 4 weeks.

Step 2: Upon receipt of your completed packet, we will review the information and you will be notified within two weeks either in writing or by a member of our staff to let you know our findings and/or the next step in the process. However, during the summer months of June, July, and August the D158 Early Childhood staff work limited days so it may take up to 4 weeks.

NOTE: Once a student qualifies he/she can start school pending the registration process. Not all students will begin the first day of school in August. We enroll students all throughout the school year. Students do not have to be potty trained to attend.
