Police Statement Regarding May 16, 2019 Incident

Huntley 158 families,

We want to provide you with information regarding an incident we dealt with this afternoon in conjunction with Huntley Police Department and Lake in the Hills Police Department.

The incident regarded a Huntley High School student who made a threat that police determined to be unfounded.

Thanks to a prompt and thorough response from both departments, the safety of our schools was quickly confirmed. It was quickly determined that there was no immediate danger to our students and staff, and schools continued operations with minimal disruption.

However, we did work throughout the afternoon with both departments as they conducted a thorough investigation, including a substantial law enforcement action taken in Lake in the Hills. As a result of this effort, several residential blocks were inaccessible to our buses for afternoon routes. Students on these routes were accommodated at our schools, and families affected were notified with instructions regarding pickup.

Huntley Police Department has released a statement outlining the full extent of details that may be shared publicly regarding this situation. Please see that statement for details. The District will work within our policies and with our local law enforcement partners on appropriate follow-up to this situation.

We thank our law enforcement partners for their prompt and thorough efforts to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowe, Ed.D
Superintendent
