As a reflection of the Huntley Community District 158’s commitment to a personalized learning environment, we are proud to announce a slight change to the way in which student learning is reported in our intermediate (3rd-5th) grade classrooms. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, we will report student progress towards mastery of specific learning targets using a number system instead of letter grades. The new reporting system will look very familiar to you, because it is similar to our current reporting of certain subjects in which skills are reported with a 1, 2, or 3.
We are making the change to our report cards to better reflect the emphasis on the mastery of skills that is currently a part of our classrooms. We anticipate that this change will encourage students to stay focused on what matters most. With a focus on reporting on specific skills, students will be able to target the areas in which they are strong and which areas need improvement. Additionally, the revised report cards will give parents a clearer picture of the learning that is occuring in the classroom.
We will continue to provide access to District reports cards via the parent portal in PowerSchool as we did in the last two trimesters of the 2017-2018 school year. Those instructions will be sent home again toward the end of the first trimester of the 2018-2019 school year.
