As we settle into the new school year, we check in with new 6th-grade students from Heineman Middle School about their transition from elementary to middle school.
In addition, Heineman Principal Jake Litchfield and teacher Mrs. Johnson share their insights on how students and families can help make this transition smooth.
The past several years, students entering 6th grade have had the opportunity to tour the school, get experience with lockers, and build relationships with staff and fellow students through the Jump Start program, which occurs during the summer prior to the start of school.
This past summer’s Jump Start program saw its highest-ever enrollment, and Mr. Litchfield reports that this program has helped give students an air of confidence as they kick off the school year.
Watch to hear more and to get tips from these now-veteran students!
