Mackeben Elementary School celebrated its hugely successful fundraising efforts for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with an assembly that saw the school’s administrators receive a pies to the face, in addition to other fun and games.
Students at the school collected donations beginning January 28 for “Hearts for Hope month” — much of it coming in the form of small coins — with the goal of collecting $2,016 in 2016. They came through in a big way, collecting more than twice that amount with a final total of $4,230.
That big total deserved a big celebration, so students were entered into a raffle for one of 10 coveted opportunities to personally deliver a whipped cream pie to the face of Principal Anna Hoyou or Assistant Principal Paula Moan.
In addition, Heineman Middle School student Savannah Kelly got the special opportunity to pie Principal Hoyou. Kelly received the honor after donating the money she received at Christmas to the Mackeben fundraiser.
After the “Pie a Principal” festivities were completed, students enjoyed a program by Magic Storyteller Chris McBrien.
