Letter to Parents: Bullet Found at HHS, No Threat to Safety

Huntley 158 Families,

We wanted to share with you information we received from Huntley Police that a single bullet was found at Huntley High School this morning. Police have conducted a thorough search of the entire school with the assistance of ammunition-sniffing canine units, and no other bullets or weapons were found. At this time, police have concluded that this discovery is not related to the incident we informed you about prior this week, in which a student was overheard making threatening remarks that were determined to be superficial.

The bullet was found at approximately 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning in a hallway near the entrance to the Performing Arts Center by a member of the Willow Creek Church congregation, which rents the PAC for Sunday morning services. In addition to the church rental, that corridor has been used by several people over the weekend for a variety of extracurricular and activities.

The school is thoroughly cleaned each weeknight by custodial staff. That the item was not discovered until Sunday morning indicates that it likely did not come from a student or school staff member. However, we will continue to assist the police with their ongoing investigation.

In working with police, we are confident that our school is safe for students and staff on Monday morning.

As a precautionary measure, there will be increased police presence at the school Monday.

Thank you to all the students, parents, guardians, staff and community members who work to ensure we have a safe school environment for all. If you have questions or information that may be helpful to police, please contact Huntley Police at (847) 515-5311.
