Huntley High School senior Parth Patel has been named to the 2014-2015 Daily Herald Leadership Team, the paper’s annual honor for high school students who excel in volunteerism and community service.
Patel, whose community service résumé includes experiences as a Sherman Hospital volunteer, OMNI Northern Illinois Youth Leadership conference attendee, Pranami Youth Temple dinner server, and tutor, was nominated for the honor by Matt Liberatore, HHS Guidance Department chair.
“This is a student that without doubt will change the world and I do not say that lightly. Never have I seen a student so driven,” read Libertore’s endorsement. “On top of his full load of classes, Parth wants to be a doctor, and he has taken it upon his own to take five additional independent study courses from MIT and Yale. He is the definition of curious learner in my book.”
“Being a volunteer has been the best occupation I could ever have—it is symbiotic to love. It is a state of being, a concept that connects people together and creates this thing that people dictate is community,” Patel said in his personal statement.
